current monitoring files<\/li>\n<li>Macros to create vectors from currents, magnetic fields and Lorentz Forces<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div id=\"pgc-59-1-1\"  class=\"panel-grid-cell\" ><div id=\"panel-59-1-1-0\" class=\"so-panel widget widget_black-studio-tinymce widget_black_studio_tinymce panel-first-child panel-last-child\" data-index=\"4\" ><h3 class=\"widget-title\">Multi-anode electrolytic smelters simulation tool<\/h3><div class=\"textwidget\"><p><strong>ESTER<\/strong> (Electrolytic SmelTER) is a special-purpose adaptation of the general- purpose fluid flow and heat transfer code PHOENICS, developed specifically for the simulation of multi-anode electrolytic smelters of the Hall-cell type. It uses a variant of the standard PHOENICS pre- and post-processors for data input and graphical display.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Features of ESTER <\/span><\/h2>\n<p><strong>ESTER<\/strong> enables the user fully to represent the smelter in 3-D taking into account all the major features of its design:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>any number of anodes in any arrangement<\/li>\n<li>the frozen electrolyte around the edge of the cell<\/li>\n<li>distortion of the metal-electrolyte interface due to pressure differences and due to vertical Lorentz Forces<\/li>\n<li>erosion of the anode undersides to follow the shape of the metal-electrolyte interface and<\/li>\n<li>current generation due to the motion of the metal - the induced current<\/li>\n<li>three components of metal velocity<\/li>\n<li>three components of electrolyte velocity<\/li>\n<li>the pressure<\/li>\n<li>the gas fraction under the anodes, and the inter-anode gaps; and<\/li>\n<li>the electric potential distribution.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Based on these, it deduces:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the height of the metal-electrolyte interface, and the height of the electrolyte free surface; and<\/li>\n<li>the electric current distribution, and the induced currents.
